A Place at the Table is Magnolia pictures latest documentary about the close to 50 million Americans that go hungry each day. The documentary follows three American families trying to make ends meet, while examining the key factors that contribute to the hunger crisis in America. Through the real stories, the film illustrates how our nation’s food distribution system, social support programs and even well-meaning charitable organizations allow the cycle to continue. Not only does the film show the economic, social and cultural implication hunger pose,s it reveals that this is a problem that America has faced and solved in the past, and can solve again.

Throughout the documentary we hear from experts including sociologist Janet Poppendieck, author Raj Patel and nutrition policy leader Marion Nestle; ordinary citizens like Pastor Bob Wilson and teachers Leslie Nichols and Odessa Cherry; and activists such as Witness to Hunger’s Mariana Chilton, Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio and Oscar®-winning actor Jeff Bridges. If you are ready to do something now a good place to start might be Jeff Bridges End Hunger Network.
